Casey wins Connecticut SPJ Award


The Connecticut Society for Professional Journalists awarded Maura Casey its top editorial writing award at a dinner May 25 for one of many editorials Casey has written on the opiod addiction and overdose crisis facing Connecticut and all the New England States. 

The judges called Casey's editorial, "Brilliantly written and substantiated." The link to Casey's editorial, "Urgency Needed to Fight Heroin Epidemic," is here. 

The Connecticut Society for Professional Journalists' annual contest takes into consideration opinion journalism that appears in print, television, radio and the Internet and awards one top editorial writing prize based on entries from these various sources. Casey has won the prize before while working for The Day of New London, Connecticut. Casey's work for the Hartford Courant appears regularly.
