Casey receives lifetime achievement award

The New England Society of News Editors honored Maura Casey with the Yankee Quill Award for lifetime achievement in Journalism at a dinner to honor her and three other journalists Oct. 6, 2016, in Natick, Mass. A fifth award honored a deceased journalist, Sara Josepha Hale, a 19th-century publisher.

Casey has won more than 40 awards in journalism and has worked on the opinion pages of three New England newspapers and The New York Times.

"Most journalists I know went into the profession because they wanted to right some wrongs, have some fun, and do some good writing," Casey said during her speech. "We did that. Along the way, we found out how complex and uplifting and heartbreaking human beings could be."
